The Arcachon Basin Zoo, located in the commune of Teste-de-Buch, is just 14 km from the Lou Broustaricq campsite. Occupying a 22-hectare site, it is home to a variety of magnificent animals from different parts of the world. Here you’ll find over 900 species of animal, including elephants, giraffes, Indian rhinoceroses, Bornean orangutans, snow leopards and many more!

The Arcachon Basin Zoo also offers visitors the chance to become a “soigneur d’un jour” or “soigneur d’un soir”. Hikers and nature lovers can climb to the top of the dune for spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Cap Ferret

Cross the Arcachon basin to Cap Ferret, a vibrant peninsula known for its beaches, fishing villages and iconic lighthouse. You can rent a bike to reach the Pointe du Cap Ferret and explore the area at your own pace along cycle paths shaded by maritime pines, or drive around the basin. Allow around 1h30 from the Lou Broustaricq campsite in Cap Ferret.

Cabanes tchanquées on Île aux Oiseaux

Take a boat to Ile aux Oiseaux, in the center of the Arcachon basin. The boat trip lasts between 1h45 and 2h, during which you can admire the cabanes tchanquées (cabins built on stilts), typical of the Arcachon Basin and one of the Gironde’s most emblematic landscapes.

The villages around the Bassin

Many of the villages around the Arcachon basin offer an authentic experience typical of the French Atlantic coast. Le Teich is a charming village on the eastern shore of the basin. It is particularly well known for its bird sanctuary, one of the largest in Europe.

Take a trip to Gujan-Mestras, to taste freshly harvested oysters in the oyster huts along the coast. If you’re a beach lover, Andernos-les-Bains is a popular seaside resort on the north shore of the Basin. Here you’ll find magnificent sandy beaches, ideal for swimming.
